Redcliffe Art Society artist demonstrations

July 27th at 12:00am
Free Entry

The much beloved Redcliffe Art Society artist demonstrations are back for another year. Join us in the Redcliffe Art Gallery foyer as we learn from local artists.

Each Saturday, these artists will be focusing on a different technique or style, sharing their expertise. Audience members are welcome to ask questions throughout the demonstration. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Saturday 27 July, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Rob Taberner - oils

Rob Taberner has been involved in mark making his entire life and continues to explore its potential to express ideas and emotions. Rob is experienced in oil, acrylic and surface preparation. He encourages endless drawing. Rob uses great artists as a learning tool for his students, not just to demonstrate technique but to gain an understanding of the importance of why it was painted when it was painted.

Saturday 3 August, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Heather Delaney - watercolour

Heather Delaney is a current tutor and member of the Redcliffe Art Society after serving on their committee for many years. Students embrace Heather’s ‘have a go’ attitude especially when using the watercolour “pouring technique” to allow the water to take you on an exciting, colourful, unpredictable journey. Heather also teaches paper stretching, pouring transparent washes with water-based mediums, the use of masking fluid and how to retain white paper without using a lot of brushwork.

Saturday 10 August, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Julie Purcell - portraiture

Demonstrating in oils, Julie Purcell will work to capture her sitter's personality in a spontaneous portrait. Julie, a former graphic designer, pursued a BFA (Hons) at QCA in 2017. Active in community art via Moreton Bay Arts Council and the Redcliffe Art Society, her work has been recognised by the City of Moreton Bay, featuring in 15 Artists and the Moreton Bay Art Award.

Saturday 17 August, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Harriet Valcx-Jankins - oils with the palette knife

Harriet Valcx-Jankins’s vibrant, thickly layered colours leap off the walls. Her oils are big, bold, and textured with thickly layered colours, most often applied with a large palette knife. Her subjects range from landscapes, to Australia’s love of sports, to glorious painting of flowers; each are a celebration of life.
