Join prize winning author Bryn Smith as he presents the first volume of Magnus Nights - a new series of action packed futuristic, crime noir thrillers.

Magnus Nights: The Helios Incident kicks off from the first page. Police are being gunned down in the streets, incinerated by advanced weapons that no criminal should have. Detective Constable Craddock and Detective Sergeant Augustine of Taskforce Bloodhound must find the source of the weapons at any cost.

But there are powerful forces who benefit from the chaos. A soldier without an enemy. An executive with everything to lose. A gangster who smells opportunity. A shadowy figure after more than money. And it may be too late to stop them.

Free. Bookings required. Book sales and signing will be available at the event.

Review: Magnus Nights: The Helios Incident is gritty sci-fi noir which crackles with sharp writing and whiplash pacing. Hitting the signature notes of the futuristic hard-boiled detective tale with aplomb, this book is a stylish, entertaining ride from start to finish. - Geneve Flynn, Bram Stoker Award-winning editor and author.

About the author: Bryn is a not-quite-country-boy, not-quite-city-slicker born in Tasmania and raised in Townsville, Queensland. He is the second of four brothers. His earliest reading memories are stealing Sharpe books from his granddad’s bookshelf and getting book recommendations from his older brother. He started writing in university. His first short story, a noir thriller, won the H Neil Smith Prize. His second short story, The Long Way Home, won the Busybird Publishing Prize and was his first published work.

Bryn started his first novel while at university and submitted it to the 2020 Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize, where it was long-listed. The novel, Magnus Nights: The Helios Incident, is a tech-noir crime thriller set in the futuristic megacity.

Thanks to feedback from Hawkeye and his editors (especially Lauren Elise Daniels) Bryn was offered a contract for The Helios Incident. He is currently working on the next book in the Magnus Nights series, Leviathan.
