Artist Marian Reginato introduces Little Houses of Feelings, the art display at Arana Hills Library which reflects on the unusual amount of time we have all spent at home in the past few years.

She says that now, as society returns to a state of "normality", she finds herself choosing to stay home as often as she can. Grateful to have a place to call home, she craves its comfort and security as the outside world can often feel rushed and overwhelming.

Her hand-sewn houses help her express and explore these feelings; drawing and slowly hand sewing each one is a calming and mindful experience.

Marian limits her materials to the wool blankets she has collected from thrift stores over the years. She said these old blankets are beautifully made and have lovely colours that invoke feelings of nostalgia and comfort.

"I chose to accept the wear and tear in the blankets, and even feature some stains and holes, reflecting my journey towards accepting my imperfections. I invite each viewer to consider which emotions of their own these little houses could hold."

About the artist: Marian completed studies in illustration and graphic design at the Queensland College of Art in 1982 and worked in the advertising industry before becoming a mother and then a full-time carer. She began to make unique sensory toys and equipment for her daughter which led to an interest in repurposing materials to make soft toys and upcycled gift items. Marian’s practice is based around self-expression and observation, using a variety of mediums, such as soft sculpture, painting, drawing, collage and working with textiles. She enjoys sharing her skills and has conducted workshops with children and adults. Marian also enjoys being with her family, gardening and observing nature.
