Landscape to Soundscape workshop with Julia Anderson

Redcliffe
July 1st at 10:30am
from $5.00

In the exhibition Her beauty and Her Terror, contemporary artists explore the Australian landscape in its extremities, subtleties and forms. You can explore your connection to it through the use of sound in a workshop with sound artist and musician Julia Anderson.

A soundscape is a combination of individual sounds that together create a sensation or tell a story. What are the sounds of the Australian landscape? How do these sounds make you feel?

In this workshop you'll work with sound artist Julia Anderson to create your own soundscape inspired by the exhibition. Julia has been performing and producing original music for the past 12 years and has developed soundscapes and soundtracks for artists and filmmakers. Develop your listening skills as you explore the creative use of audio technology. Every day sounds are recorded and transformed into source material, combined and layered just like a collage. What landscape will you conjure through your own unique soundscape? Delve into the Australian gothic aesthetics of the exhibition around you against the coastal backdrop of Redcliffe.

You'll use iPads in the guided workshop to create your soundscape. Please bring along earphones with a standard headphone jack input. Parents/Carers can relax in the gallery during the workshop or return at the end. Your soundscape will be sent to you as an mp3 following the workshop.

This event is suitable for ages 12-16 and light refreshments and all materials are provided.
