Beginner Sewing Workshops

The aim of our Quilting workshop is to help beginner sewers gain confidence using their sewing machine. We will teach you all you need to know to get started, while also learning some basic quilting skills.

Our quilting workshop is run over 3 consecutive Monday evenings at 6pm, running for 3 hours each (a total of 9hrs).

During our Quilting workshop you will learn the basics required to complete a patch quilt (100cm x 100cm). These quilts are a perfect size to be used as a lap blanket, cot comforter, pram blanket or even playmat.

All fabric required to complete your project is included in the workshop fee.

Our beginner quilting workshops will cover the following:

• Get to know your machine
• Threading the machine and winding a bobbin
• Changing needles
• Simple sewing stitches
• Sewing tools we recommend to get you started
• Cutting patch squares and patch placement
• Stitching patch pieces together
• Sandwiching quilt layers
• Binding your quilt for a professional finish

What do I need to bring?

• Your sewing machine, including power cord and foot pedal
• Your machine accessories and feet
• Sewing kit (scissors, unpicker, universal machine needles, pins, measuring tape, air erasable pen, thread).
• Quilting tools (cutting mat, rotary cutter, quilting ruler, hand sewing needles, safety pins) We have quilting kits available for $65 (rrp$77.70). Kits will need to be purchased prior to you workshop. You can do this by adding one to your booking.
• Enclosed shoes are a must.

What is included in our workshops?

• Everything needed to make a quilted blanket, including fabric and batting (valued at $70)
• Tea/Coffee and light refreshments
  
• 9 hours of sewing instruction

Hire a sewing machine

* We have a limited number of sewing machines available for hire for those who don't have a machine but you'll need to get in quick to hire one!

Our workshops are held at our North Lakes warehouse on Brisbane's north side.

*Dates and times are subject to change at our discretion. All registered attendees will be notified and given priority to rebook.

*Cancellations are not accepted as bookings are non-refundable. Bookings can be rescheduled to the next available workshop if you are unable to attend.
