Have you ever looked at an artwork and thought ‘I just don’t get it’? Or have had a tricky time understanding why an artwork makes you feel, or not feel a certain way?

Visit Redcliffe Art Gallery on 19 November 2022 and join Dr Louise R Mayhew for a free guided tour and talk about the annual acquisitive exhibition 15 Artists. The exhibition highlights recent works by Australian artists, presenting diverse voices and ideas. Whether you are well-versed in contemporary art or unfamiliar with it, this is an opportunity to experience fresh insights and understanding. Louise will introduce a selection of the artworks and discuss key concepts throughout the exhibition.

The talk is suitable for people aged 16 years or over and will be followed by light refreshments.

About the presenter

Dr Louise R Mayhew is an Australian feminist art historian living and working in Meanjin/Brisbane. She is a creative business champion for Arts Queensland and the Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) and an accredited member of the International Art Critics Association (IACA). She is also the founding editor of Lemonade: Letters to Art, a new digital platform reviewing art exhibitions in the Sunshine State.

Louise loves art. Her PhD charts the first history of women-only art collectives in Australia, c. 1970 to now. And her interests extend to Australian modernism, cyberfeminism, relational aesthetics, selfies and emerging practice. Following a decade in academia, Louise currently freelances as a writer, editor and mentor for emerging creatives.
