1972 - Maxi dresses, miniskirts, knee socks and patterns were happening in a big way! Grease had its first Broadway run, Australia saw both William McMahon and Gough Whitlam as Prime Minister, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy was constructed in front of Parliament House (now old Parliament House), Belinda Green is crowned Miss World in London, controversial soap opera Number 96 debuts on Network 10, and the first game of the World Chess Championship 1972 between challenger Bobby Fischer and defending champion Boris Spassky starts.

Musically speaking, 1972 saw the release of some of the most timeless records ever made. The Rolling Stones, David Bowie (introducing his alter ego Ziggy Stardust), Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, and Elton John all released world-beating LPs. Add to this, Aretha Franklin, Carly Simon, and Rod Stewart each putting out some of the best work of their careers. It was BIG year for music!
